A couple died after being electrocuted by a grass-cutting machine used for livestock feed in Jhenaidah’s Shailkupa upazila on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place around dawn at Madhabpur village under Monoharpur Union of the upazila, leaving the local community in mourning.
The deceased were identified as Amarendra Nath Bhowmik, 70, and his wife Mina Bhowmik, 60.
Family members said Amarendra Nath was preparing to cut grass with the machine for their cattle when it became electrically charged, causing him to suffer an electric shock.
Seeing her husband being electrocuted, Mina rushed to rescue him but also received an electric shock. Both died on the spot.
Dr Asaduzzaman Joha, medical officer of the emergency department at Shailkupa Health Complex, said the couple died due to electrocution.
“Relatives brought them to the hospital around 7:30am, but they were already dead,” he said.
Shailkupa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Humayun Kabir Molla said police have started investigating the incident.
He added that the bodies would be handed over to the family after completion of the necessary legal procedures.
