A trailer release for the upcoming Bangladeshi film ‘Contract Marriage’, directed by Hasan Jahangir and featuring actress Moushumi, has sparked strong criticism from audiences and industry figures ahead of its scheduled theatrical release on May 15.
The project, which reportedly began as web content before being expanded into a full-length feature, has come under scrutiny following its teaser release on Thursday. Viewers expressed disappointment online, criticising the film’s presentation, narrative coherence and overall production quality.
The trailer, shared across social media platforms and YouTube, prompted widespread reaction in comment sections, with many users questioning the decision to invest in what they described as a low-quality production.
Some viewers said they felt the entire film had effectively been revealed within the teaser itself, while others expressed surprise at the standard of filmmaking in 2026.
Fans of Moushumi also voiced disappointment, saying they were disheartened to see the actress in such a project.
Following the trailer release, concerns escalated after reports emerged that the film had recently received censor clearance. Moushumi’s husband, actor Omar Sani, also commented on the project, stating that it was not a conventional film but a drama originally shot in the US. He further urged that its release be reconsidered, arguing it did not meet audience expectations.
Moushumi herself has addressed the controversy, clarifying that she had initially agreed to participate in a one-hour drama project in the US at the request of the producer.
She said she was later informed that it would be released as a telefilm due to additional footage, but it was ultimately presented as a feature film without her full knowledge.
She also expressed concern over how the project had been repackaged, stating that it was unethical for her involvement to be presented in a different form from what she had agreed to.
Despite the criticism, director Hasan Jahangir maintains that the film will deliver meaningful messages to audiences upon release.
