Community Bank Bangladesh PLC signed a participatory agreement on Thursday at Bangladesh Bank’s headquarters in Dhaka to join the central bank’s SME Development Project-2 refinance facility, a move aimed at widening access to credit for small and medium enterprises and accelerating job creation.
The agreement brings Community Bank into the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Project-2, a flagship Bangladesh Bank initiative supported by development partners to boost competitiveness and expand long-term financing for entrepreneurs across the country.
The signing took place at the central bank’s main building, where Bangladesh Bank Executive Director (Grade-1) S M Abdul Hakim attended the event. Munira Islam, director of SMEDP-2, and Kimiwa Saddat, Community Bank’s managing director (current charge), exchanged documents on behalf of their institutions.
Senior officials from both sides were present, including Bangladesh Bank Additional Director Md Tarikul Islam and Community Bank’s corporate and SME leadership teams — Ariful Islam, head of corporate banking and head of business (branch), and Sharif Hasan Mamun, head of SME and agriculture.
Officials said the refinancing window is expected to strengthen SME lending pipelines, support enterprise expansion and help channel formal financing into one of the economy’s most employment-intensive sectors.
