An improvised explosive device (Molotov cocktail ) exploded early Monday morning near the High Court area in Dhaka, close to the International Crimes Tribunal.  Six unexploded cocktails were also discovered on the University of Dhaka (DU) campus around the same time. Shahbagh Police have confirmed the incidents and launched an investigation.

According to police sources, at approximately 6:30 am, unidentified individuals hurled two cocktail bombs from across the road near the High Court Mazar (shrine) gate. One device exploded in front of the gate, while the other landed across the road without detonating. The bomb disposal unit later arrived at the scene to secure the area.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police is reviewing CCTV footage in the area in an attempt to identify those responsible. Meanwhile, several DU students reported that around the same time, six unexploded cocktail bombs were found beneath a tree next to the Kazi Motahar Hossain Building (Law Faculty).

Security personnel discovered the devices and promptly informed the university’s proctorial team and Shahbagh Police Station. The bomb disposal unit was called in and removed the explosives around 9:30 am.

Authorities are currently investigating the motive and individuals behind these coordinated incidents.
