Popular Bangladeshi fusion band Chirkutt is set to energise the capital with a series of three concerts marking Pohela Baishakh, as several universities gear up for festive celebrations.
The band will perform at three separate campus events organised by university cultural bodies, presenting a line-up of their widely loved original tracks, including ‘Jadur Shohor’, ‘Ahare Jibon’, ‘Duniya’ and ‘Kanamachhi’.
On April 14, the first day of the Bengali New Year, the band is scheduled to perform at North South University at 3:00 pm, organised by the North South University Cultural Organisation.
Earlier that day, they will perform at East West University at 11:00 am, following an invitation from the East West University Club for Performing Arts (ECPA).
The celebrations will continue till April 15, when the band will perform at United International University, organised by the United International University Cultural Club.
Chirkutt’s lead vocalist, Sharmin Sultana Sumi, said the love and support of young audiences have always driven the band’s journey.“We keep returning to the stage again and again because of the love of the youth. It feels wonderful to be invited by different universities for Baishakh celebrations this year as well,” she said.
She added that the band is preparing a festive setlist featuring popular songs, aiming to celebrate the spirit of Baishakh together with audiences.
The upcoming performances have already created a vibrant festive atmosphere across university campuses, as students prepare to welcome the Bengali New Year with music, culture and celebration.
Recognised as one of Bangladesh’s leading fusion bands, Chirkutt has built a distinctive musical identity by blending rock, folk and contemporary sounds. Their performances at home and abroad have helped introduce Bangla band music to international audiences.
