Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Sunday unveiled the official trophy of the 2nd Women’s Kabaddi World Cup 2025, marking a major milestone ahead of the tournament that Bangladesh will host for the first time. The ceremony, held at the state guest house Jamuna, was attended by representatives from all participating nations and officially set the stage for one of the world’s most anticipated women’s kabaddi events.
The unveiling highlighted Bangladesh’s readiness to welcome the global kabaddi community and reinforced the country’s growing leadership in advancing women’s sports on the international stage. The tournament will take place from 17 to 24 November at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Dhaka.
During the unveiling, Professor Yunus spoke about the significance of hosting the championship and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering an inclusive and world-class event.
“This World Cup carries great meaning for Bangladesh. We are proud to host these talented athletes and we aim to ensure a tournament that inspires, includes, and represents the best of global women’s kabaddi,” he said.
He also welcomed the visiting teams and acknowledged the organisers and athletes working together to make the competition a success.
The 2025 edition of the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup will bring together top national teams for eight days of competition and cultural exchange. Participating countries include Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Germany, Iran, India, Kenya, Nepal, Poland, Thailand, Uganda and Zanzibar.
Organisers from the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation said that preparations are progressing smoothly, with comprehensive plans in place for logistics, security, team accommodation and fan engagement. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 17 November, followed by daily matches leading up to the final on 24 November.
Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan also addressed the event, emphasising the government’s vision for women’s participation in competitive sport.
“Women athletes in Bangladesh are consistently proving their ability on the international stage. We remain committed to giving them every support they need to succeed,” he said. He added that their achievements are a source of national pride and a powerful motivation for future generations.
