Reshmi Akter, 11‑year‑old girl wounded in a shooting by local criminals in Roufabad, Chattogram, has died.
She breathed her last around 9:30am on Thursday, said her brother, Faisal Ahmed.
Faisal told Times of Bangladesh, “My sister died while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Doctors informed us in the morning.”
On 7 May, Reshmi was injured when gunmen targeted Hasan Raju, a local criminal, at the Shaheed Minar Colony in Roufabad. Since then, she had been receiving treatment in the hospital’s ICU.
Reshmi was a Class IV student at a local primary school and the youngest of five siblings.
She had been sent to a nearby shop by her mother to buy betel leaf (pan) when five to six masked gunmen opened fire on 24-year-old Hasan Raju. While Raju was killed on the spot, a stray bullet struck Reshmi, entering through her eye and penetrating her brain.
