BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that, without the people’s support, and without the government and its people working and planning together, it is only then that real can be brought about in the country.
The BNP chief made the statement at an election rally in Tangail on Saturday afternoon.
He said, “If we all work together, if we all plan together, then surely not only Tangail, but we will be able to bring the desired change across the whole of Bangladesh. To bring about change, the people must undoubtedly be with us. Because the people are the owners of the country; if the people support BNP, we will surely be able to gradually bring about a change in the fortunes of the country’s people.”
He has also alleged that certain quarters are conspiring to obstruct the election and has called upon the people to be alert and cautious.
He said, “Certain quarters are still trying to figure out how to obstruct the voting in various ways. Various people from those quarters are targeting women in the household, take their NID and bKash numbers, trying to mislead them in this way. As such, we must be cautious.”
“Those who can engage in such unethical activities before the election, if they are allowed the opportunity, they will sell out the country,” he said, but added that if the country remain united, then no one could take away their rights.
At the rally, Tarique officially introduced BNP’s candidates from Tangail – Shapon Fakir, Abdus Salam Pintu, Obaidur Haque Nasir, Lutfor Rahman Matin, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Rabiul Alam Lablu, Abul Kalam Azad Siddiqui, and Ahmed Azam Khan – before handing the “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol to them and appealed to the people of Tangail to make these candidates victorious.
Mentioning going to the polling centres early on election day and guarding the polling centers, he said, preparations to go to the polling center must be made from the day before.
Regarding various demands of Tangail, Tarique Rahman said, as a political party, our candidates have presented various demands of their respective areas before you. If you vote for and elect the Sheaf of Paddy on 12 February, if BNP can form the government on February 13, we will start addressing the demands of this area gradually.
Tarique Rahman also spoke about plans to construct a barrage on the Jamuna River in Tangail, establish mill factories in this region, set up factories for processing pineapples to make juice, the jute industry, and other sectors.
The rally was presided over by Tangail District President Hasanuzzaman Shahin and conducted by former Acting General Secretary Mahmudul Haque Sabu. Other speakers at the rally included BNP central leaders Saeedul Alam Babul, Benjir Ahmed Titu, Saeed Sohrab, Shamsuzzaman Suraj, along with the candidates from the 8 constituencies of Tangail.
During his three-day election campaign in the northern region, Tarique Rahman held four rallies in Rajshahi, Naogaon, Bogura, and Rangpur. On the final day, he delivered speeches at election rallies in Sirajganj and Tangail. After that, Tarique Rahman left for Dhaka around 7 PM.
