Argentina’s dramatic victory over England in the FIFA World Cup semi-final sparked jubilant celebrations among Bangladeshi showbiz personalities on Wednesday night, with actors, musicians and television stars flooding social media with congratulatory messages, jokes and friendly banter.
The Albiceleste secured a 2-1 win over England to book their place in the World Cup final, inspiring widespread reactions from celebrity supporters of Lionel Messi and Argentina.
Actor Chanchal Chowdhury, a long-time Argentina supporter, celebrated the victory with his trademark humour. Sharing a photo of England captain Harry Kane on Facebook, he wrote, “Wake up and score a goal or something! How much longer will I have to explain all those committee stories to people in the neighbourhood?” Referring to a popular Bangla film meme, he also urged fellow supporters to delay their celebrations and first “console those who lost.”
Actor Purnima, another passionate Argentina fan, wrote, “Standing beside the champions. Argentina are in another World Cup final. Just one more battle remains.”
Actor Pori Moni once again grabbed attention with a humorous post linked to an earlier promise she had made before the tournament. After previously declaring that she would “get married again” if Argentina won the World Cup, she posted a photo of Harry Kane after the match and wrote, “Harry Kane, you couldn’t stop my wedding!”
Actor Nadia watched the match from the stadium and shared her excitement on social media after the victory. She wrote that no amount of “bad luck or evil eye” could stop Argentina, adding that although the team briefly struggled during the first half, they returned strongly after the break to score two outstanding goals within six minutes and 37 seconds. She concluded her post by celebrating Argentina’s place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final with “Vamos Argentina!”
Model and actor Irfan Sajjad also joined the celebrations with a video message after the match. While playfully teasing Brazil supporters, he celebrated Argentina’s victory and captioned the post: “Pack your bags again, everyone. Time to go to Spain! We’re staying in Argentina!”
Actor Keya Payel also shared her excitement, writing, “Argentina, you’re a beauty.”
Actor Farzana Chumki congratulated the team as well, praising their performance late in the match. “Congratulations Argentina. The football towards the end was outstanding,” she wrote.
The celebrations also reignited the long-running social media banter between actors Omar Sani and Shahriar Nazim Joy. Moments after the final whistle, Joy responded to one of Sani’s earlier posts by comparing Argentina’s goals to one of actor Moushumi’s famous film dialogues. “Argentina’s goals were like Moushumi apa’s whip. Not the cotton one — the real one,” he joked.
The exchange followed an earlier Facebook post by Omar Sani on 14 July, when the actor jokingly warned Joy that while a fake cotton whip had been used in one of Moushumi’s films, he would use a real one against him. The playful rivalry stemmed from their friendly exchanges over Messi and the World Cup earlier in the tournament.
Their latest round of online banter quickly went viral, drawing thousands of reactions and comments from football fans enjoying the light-hearted exchanges alongside Argentina’s memorable victory.
Since the start of the tournament, Dhallywood celebrities have regularly shared their excitement, disappointment and matchday reactions on social media. Argentina’s latest triumph has once again united many of them as the team prepares for one final step towards the World Cup trophy.
