A delegation of the Election Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin has travelled to Bangabhaban to meet President Mohammed Shahabuddin ahead of the announcement of the schedules for the 13th National Election and the national referendum.

The five-member commission first held an internal meeting around 11am before leaving for Bangabhaban at about 11:30am. They are scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the President at 12:30pm.

As per long-standing practice, the President is briefed on all preparations before the schedule is declared. The Chief Election Commissioner will later announce the schedule through a speech to be aired on BTV and Bangladesh Betar.

The CEC’s address is expected to be recorded on Wednesday afternoon at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, where security was visibly strengthened from the morning.

The schedule will set the voting date for the first half of February, with both the parliamentary election and the referendum taking place on the same day from 7:30am to 4:30pm.

It will also outline the deadlines for collecting and submitting nomination papers, scrutiny and withdrawal of candidacy. For the referendum, only the polling date will be included.
