Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam has said that a fare list for public transport buses will be prepared soon.
The minister made the announcement while responding to a written question from Brahmanbaria-2 MP Rumeen Farhana during Thursday’s parliamentary session, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram presided over the session.
The minister explained that under the Road Transport Act, 2018, passenger and goods transport committees are to be formed in every metropolitan area, division, and district. These committees determine the number of vehicles based on road capacity and approve route permits.
He added that, according to the same law, fares and minimum fares for public transport are fixed or revised through government gazette notifications. The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) then publishes the updated fare list on its website and instructs transport owners to display it prominently in vehicles.
Currently, fare lists exist for non-AC buses and minibuses. A separate list for AC buses and minibuses will be introduced soon, with arrangements to make it easily visible to passengers through digital displays.
