British Columbia School proudly hosted its inaugural Space Leadership Program – NASA Day on September 26, 2025, in collaboration with NASA and the Himalayan Space Centre.
The event, themed “Build and Blast-Off Your Space Rocket,” brought together students from grades 9 to 12 for a dynamic day of hands-on activities, teamwork, and space science exploration.
Afroz Al Mamun, Space Camp Ambassador (NASA & ESA) and Master Tutor at ISRO-India, led the programme, aiming to ignite curiosity and inspire young minds toward future careers in science, technology, and space leadership.
“We wanted to offer our students a unique opportunity to learn about space, ignite their curiosity, and encourage them to pursue careers in STEM fields,” said Principal Lisa Saha.
“This event marked a significant milestone in fostering creativity, leadership, and perseverance among our students,” she added.
The event featured a series of educational and fun activities that blended science, creativity, and fitness. Activities included warm-up games such as 1-leg rest, jump rope, and hopscotch, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness in building resilience.
Students participated in ice-breaking games like ping pong and tangram, which promoted teamwork, confidence, and problem-solving. They also built and launched their own 3D rocket models in a friendly competition.
Additionally, there was a knowledge-based game, Astronaut Finding, which taught students how to stay calm and solve problems under pressure.
A parachute simulation with cups demonstrated how parachutes function in real life, while students constructed simple vehicle modules in a rover-building session, simulating Mars rovers.
Students also repurposed plastic bottles into water rockets, focusing on sustainability and innovation. To round off the experience, an immersive Virtual Reality (VR) activity allowed students to explore space and rocket concepts interactively.
The day culminated in an exciting rocket launch, where students’ designs took flight, sparking a renewed passion for space exploration among the participants.
Chairman Quazi Rafquat Hossain added, “We are proud to have hosted the first NASA Day at British Columbia School. This initiative reinforces our commitment to providing global-standard learning experiences that prepare students to be the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.”
British Columbia School continues to create outstanding opportunities for students, helping them strengthen their profiles for studying abroad, particularly those aspiring for significant scholarships.
This event marks a step forward in the school’s vision of cultivating the next generation of space leaders.
