Brent Christensen, a distinguished career member of the US Senior Foreign Service, has been nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as the next US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Bangladesh. The nomination, announced on September 2, 2025, is now awaiting approval from the US Senate.
With extensive experience in US diplomacy, Christensen is poised to replace the current ambassador. His tenure, if confirmed, will focus on strengthening bilateral ties between the US and Bangladesh, with a particular emphasis on trade, security, and regional stability.
Christensen’s career spans multiple high-level positions in foreign policy. He most recently served as Foreign Policy Advisor to the Commander of United States Strategic Command from 2022 to 2025, advising on global strategic deterrence. His prior roles include Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs at the US Embassy in Dhaka, where he worked from 2019 to 2021, and Deputy Director at the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.
A distinguished graduate of the National War College, Christensen holds a Master of Science in National Security Strategy and a Master of Science in Statistics from Texas A&M University. He also speaks several languages, including Spanish, German, Vietnamese and little Bangla.
Christensen’s nomination underscores the US commitment to fostering closer cooperation with Bangladesh across various sectors, ensuring continued collaboration on regional security and economic issues.
