Brad Pitt’s upcoming survival thriller Heart of the Beast, directed by David Ayer, has been added to the lineup of the San Sebastián Film Festival, where it will screen out of competition in the Official Selection.
Pitt and Ayer will attend the festival to present the film, organisers announced on Monday (24 August).
The festival is scheduled to take place from 18 to 26 September.
Heart of the Beast follows a former Army Special Forces soldier, played by Pitt, who becomes stranded in the Alaskan wilderness after his small plane crashes.
With the help of Odin, a retired service dog, he must survive the unforgiving landscape, evade wild animals and find his way back to civilisation.
Academy Award winner JK Simmons and Anna Lambe also star in the film.
Pitt serves as a producer alongside Olivia Hamilton and Marty Bowen, while Ayer is also among the producers.
The screenplay was written by Cameron Alexander, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Damien Chazelle, Scott Lumpkin, Chris Long, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, Andrew Lary, Sophie Cassidy and Zack Conroy.
The film is produced by A Wild Chickens, Temple Hill and Kino World, in association with Domain Entertainment and Gulfstream Pictures.
Heart of the Beast reunites Pitt and Ayer more than a decade after their collaboration on the 2014 World War II film Fury, in which Pitt played a US Army tank commander.
The film marks the first major star appearance announced for this year’s San Sebastián Film Festival.
Another anticipated star at the festival is Penélope Cruz, who appears in Olivia Wilde’s The Invite and has an extended cameo as a cabaret singer in Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi’s La bola negra. Both films are part of the festival’s Perlak section.
