BRAC Bank has been appointed as a Primary Dealer of government securities by the Ministry of Finance, becoming one of the first banks to secure the licence under a revised framework introduced jointly with Bangladesh Bank, the lender said in a press release.

The appointment, which follows the central bank issued a circular on 30 April approving both BRAC Bank and Pubali Bank as primary dealers, took effect from the first working day of May 2026 and runs for a three-year period subject to annual performance evaluations. The status positions BRAC Bank to play a more active role in primary auctions, contributing to market liquidity, efficient price discovery, and the continued development of Bangladesh’s financial ecosystem.

The designation builds on a sustained run of market leadership. According to Bangladesh Bank’s latest annual report, BRAC Bank has retained its position as the top-performing bank in secondary market trading for the fourth consecutive year, expanding its market share to 17.03 percent in the 2024-25 financial year. The bank also holds one of the largest proprietary government securities portfolios among commercial banks and manages a substantial, diversified customer base.

“Our appointment as a Primary Dealer marks a significant step forward in deepening Bangladesh’s bond market,” said Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, Managing Director and CEO of BRAC Bank. “It reflects our consistent performance, disciplined investment approach, and commitment to building a resilient financial ecosystem.”
