Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal has raised doubts over the hosting of the 13`th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), saying the board does not have enough time to make proper preparations for the tournament.
Speaking to the media after Wednesday’s board meeting at the BCB headquarters in Mirpur, Tamim said no final decision has been taken yet on the fate of the country’s premier franchise T20 competition, which is usually held during the December-January window.
“There is no final decision on the BPL yet,” Tamim said when asked about the tournament’s uncertainty. “But I have said before that I don’t want to organise the BPL just for the sake of holding it. I believe I have made that very clear. Personally, I don’t think we had sufficient time to arrange the tournament in the right way.”
The BCB chief said the board would only proceed if it can ensure proper planning and smooth execution of all related arrangements.
“If we host the BPL in the future, Insha’Allah, we will do it properly. We will try to manage everything as much as possible and bring all the required elements together before moving forward,” he added.
The BPL, Bangladesh’s biggest domestic T20 franchise event, has repeatedly faced criticism in recent years due to poor planning, venue complications, scheduling issues and organisational challenges. Several previous editions were also surrounded by controversies, putting the tournament’s management under scrutiny.
