Bangladesh Open University (BOU) recently inaugurated a Sub-Regional Center (SRC) in Sarankhola upazila of Bagerhat in a bid to make education more accessible for students along the country’s coastal belt.
Dr ABM Obaidul Islam, vice-chancellor of BOU, officially opened the centre on Saturday, September 20.
He said through the initiative, they aim to help coastal students participate in modern curricula, technical and vocational programmes, and ICT-based education. Islam informed that programmes fees are also being reduced to ensure equal access.
Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police (Khulna) Sheikh Joynuddin, and Bagerhat Superintendent of Police Md Asaduzzaman attended as special guests. The ceremony was presided over by BOU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (academic) Dr Dil Rowshan Zinnat Ara Nazneen.
BOU Treasurer Dr Abul Hasnat Md Shamim, Registrar Professor Md Anisur Rahman, dean, directors, faculty members, local dignitaries, students, and community members were also present.
Guests toured the new centre and exchanged views with teachers, students, and residents.
