At least 11 workers were killed and 22 others injured after a boiler tube exploded at Vedanta Ltd’s power plant in India’s Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, reports NDTV.
The blast occurred in the afternoon at the Singhitarai village facility, according to Superintendent of Police Prafull Thakur. The cause of the explosion was not immediately known, police said.
“Eleven workers have died, and 22 have sustained injuries,” Thakur told PTI.
He added four died on the spot while seven succumbed at hospitals. The injured are being treated in Raigarh district.
Rescue operations were launched soon after the blast, with police and local administration rushing to the site.
Authorities said the area around the boiler remains extremely hot, and staff have been evacuated from the vicinity.
