The government has appointed Engineer Belayet Hossain, a BNP leader, as the new Chairman of the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) for a one-year contractual term.
The appointment was officially confirmed on Thursday through a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration.
According to the directive, issued under Section 7(1) of the Chattogram Development Authority Act, 2018, Belayet Hossain will hold the post of CDA Chairman (Grade-2) for one year, effective from the date of joining.
The notification stipulates that during his tenure, Belayet Hossain will be prohibited from engaging in any other profession, business, or employment within government, semi-government, or private institutions.
He succeeds Engineer Md Nurul Karim, who served as CDA Chairman under a three-year contractual appointment beginning 2 September, 2024.
Belayet Hossain, a resident of Sandwip Upazila in Chattogram, was a BNP candidate for the Chattogram-3 (Sandwip) constituency in the 13th national election.
His political involvement dates back to his student years, when he served as president of Chhatra Dal at Chattogram Polytechnic Institute in 1984 and later became general secretary of the institute’s student union.
In 1986, he also held the position of joint convener of the Chittagong Metropolitan Chhatra Dal.
