bKash has launched a new career development initiative ‘bHive’ to give university students early exposure to the corporate world while still studying, the fintech company said, marking a departure from the traditional model where professional experience is gained only after graduation.

Under the programme, second- and third-year students from leading public and private universities are given the opportunity to experience corporate operations first hand and learn how different departments function within a major business.

Around 180 students from 18 top universities took part in the inaugural four-day bHive programme, which included subject-based sessions, guided office tours and interactive discussions with senior bKash officials. The event was divided into four segments designed to help participants closely observe and learn about Bangladesh’s leading fintech company.

Maisha Mahwiyat Nawly, a student of the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Dhaka who aspires to a career in fintech, said she viewed the initiative as a valuable way to understand how corporate offices operate, how projects are developed and implemented, and how to prepare for a future career.

Students were chosen through a structured selection process that also offered insight into the skills, standards and pathways required to enter a competitive workforce.

Mohammed Ferdous Yusuf, Chief Human Resources Officer of bKash Limited, said one of the biggest challenges in the fast-evolving fintech sector is developing talent aligned with innovative technologies, and that bHive is intended to inspire students to start planning their careers early.

bKash already runs several career and talent development initiatives. Its management trainee programme GenNext Leader is aimed at fostering career growth for fresh graduates, while the paid internship programme bnext gives students hands-on experience working on company projects. The b-ACE Campus Ambassador Programme designates selected students as strategic partners to enhance engagement between the company and universities. The new bHive initiative focuses on giving students an understanding of the professional world and practical guidance as they complete their studies.

Thanks to these programmes, bKash was ranked Employer of Choice for three consecutive years — 2020, 2021 and 2022 — among top multinational companies in the Campus Track Survey by NielsenIQ, a global research organisation.
