Vehicle users can now pay bridge tolls automatically through bKash without stopping at booths after the Roads and Highways Department introduced an electronic toll collection system at 14 major bridge crossings across Bangladesh.
The system allows vehicles to pass toll points without queues while the toll is automatically deducted from the user’s bKash account.
Vehicle owners must register their vehicles through the bKash mobile application and attach a radio frequency identification sticker to the vehicle’s windshield.
When a vehicle passes a designated toll plaza, the RFID sticker is scanned and the applicable toll is deducted from the registered bKash account.
The toll will be deducted even if the registered customer is not inside the vehicle during the crossing and the payment will be processed even if mobile internet is unavailable.
Users receive a notification on their registered mobile number after the deduction confirming the transaction.
The automatic toll system is operating at Shahid Mayez Uddin Bridge and Charsindur in Narsingdi.
In the central corridor it operates at Meghna–Gomoti Bridge, the 3rd Shitolokkha Bridge and Sayed Nazrul Islam Bridge in Bhairab.
In the south and southwest the system is available at Madhumati Bridge in Kalna, Khan Jahan Ali Bridge in Khulna, Lalon Shah Bridge in Kushtia, Lebukhali Bridge in Patuakhali and the 8th Bangladesh–China Friendship Bridge in Pirojpur.
In other regions the facility is active at Karnaphuli Bridge in Chattogram, Hatikamrul–Banpara New Road in Natore and Hazrat Shah Paran Bridge in Sylhet.
To register a vehicle, users must select the “Toll” option on the home screen of the bKash app, choose “Register a Vehicle” and submit the required information before confirming the process with their bKash PIN.
Customers can cancel vehicle registration at any time through the application.
