Import and export activities at Satkhira’s Bhomra Land Port will remain suspended for seven days from Saturday (17 October) to Friday (23 October) for Sharadiya Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community.
However, passport-holding passengers will be able to travel through the port as usual during this period. Commercial operations between Bangladesh and India will resume on 24 October. The Bhomra Land Port C&F Agents Association was informed of this decision through an official letter sent by India’s Ghojadanga C&F Agents Cargo Welfare Association.
According to the Bhomra Land Port C&F Agents Association General Secretary Abu Musa, a letter signed by India’s Ghojadanga C&F Agents Cargo Welfare Association General Secretary Mihir Ghosh, was issued on 1 October.
The letter communicated the initial decision to suspend import and export trade for six consecutive days from Saturday (17 October) to 22 October (Thursday) for Durga Puja. As 23 October (Friday) is a weekly holiday in Bangladesh, an additional day was added, resulting in a total of seven consecutive days of trade closure between the two countries. Bilateral commercial activities will restart as normal on Saturday, 24 October.
Meanwhile, Bhomra Immigration Police Officer-in-Charge (acting) ASI Shamim confirmed that while import and export trade through Bhomra Land Port is suspended for the festival, travel for passport-holding passengers will proceed as normal throughout this period.
