Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have detained one person and seized 138,000 pieces of Burmese Yaba tablets from a truck at Morichya Joint Checkpost in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar.
Acting on intelligence reports, a team from Ramu Battalion (30 BGB), led by Deputy Commanding Officer Major Md Ashiqur Rahman, reinforced patrolling and searching operations at the joint checkpost on Tuesday.
During the operation, BGB members intercepted a suspicious truck and conducted a thorough search.
They recovered the Yaba tablets, which were concealed inside the truck’s chassis frame using a special technique, and subsequently detained one individual in connection with the smuggling attempt.
According to the BGB, legal procedures against the detained individual and the seized drugs are currently underway.
Commanding Officer of Ramu Battalion (30 BGB) Lieutenant Colonel Imrul Kayes Mehedi said alongside safeguarding the border, the BGB regularly conducts operations to prevent drug trafficking, smuggling, illegal infiltration, and other interstate border crimes.
He added that the BGB’s active efforts to ensure border security would continue in the future.
