Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 1,42,000 Yaba tablets and two CNG-run vehicles and arrested two individuals in drives along the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Highway.
In the first operation on Tuesday evening, a patrol from Rezu Amtali BOP in Ukhiya’s Hizlia area recovered 1,30,000 Yaba tablets, a CNG, and arrested 24-year-old Abdullah, a Rohingya resident of Kutupalong camp and son of Mir Ahmed.
Lt Col SM Khairul Alam, commander of 34 BGB in Cox’s Bazar, said intelligence indicated a large shipment of Yaba was being transported from Kutupalong to Cox’s Bazar.
“Acting on the tip-off, patrols were intensified. Around 6:30pm, a suspicious CNG was chased and stopped. Yaba tablets were recovered from under the front box and seats of the vehicle,” he added.
The arrestee Abdullah and the seized items were handed over to the local police, and a case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
In a separate drive on Wednesday afternoon, the Ramu Battalion (30 BGB) Morichya joint check post seized 12,000 Yaba tablets and another CNG. They arrested the CNG driver Jalal Uddin, 26, in this connection.
According to BGB officials, around 12:50 pm, based on confidential information, patrols were intensified at the check post. The suspicious CNG was stopped, and the drugs were recovered from under the driver’s seat.
Lt Col Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, commander of 30 BGB in Ramu, said, “Border surveillance has been strengthened to curb drugs and smuggling. Such operations will continue regularly to ensure a drug-free country.”
