FIFA President Gianni Infantino could make a brief transit stop in Bangladesh Sunday while traveling to Thimphu, Bhutan.

Although the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has not yet received final confirmation regarding the exact layover route, preparations are already underway to facilitate the potential visit. Because direct flight paths to Bhutan are limited, travelers frequently transit through Saidpur, Dhaka, or regional hubs in India.

The initial connection between local administrators and the world governing body’s head was established during the FIFA ASEAN Cup in Indonesia in September and October, where Bangladesh participated. BFF President Tabith Awal and executive committee member Imtiaz Hamid Sebul met Infantino during the tournament.

Anticipating a short layover at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, BFF General Secretary Imran Hossain Tushar visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday afternoon. The goal is to secure expedited immigration and airport clearance protocols should Infantino opt to transit through the capital.

If the FIFA chief stays in the VIP lounge during his layover, top federation leadership, including the BFF president and vice-presidents, plan to meet him in person to discuss regional football matters.

While the layover remains unconfirmed, the federation is taking every precaution to ensure seamless logistics for the world football chief’s brief presence on Bangladeshi soil.
