Jude Bellingham has invested in cricket. The Real Madrid midfielder has bought a 1.2 percent stake in Birmingham Phoenix.
The team is based at Edgbaston Cricket Ground. It was one of the eight teams in The Hundred that went up for sale last year.
Knighthead Capital Management bought a 49 percent share for £40 million. The group also owns Birmingham City, where Bellingham started his career. Warwickshire County Cricket Club kept a 51 percent share.
Bellingham took 0.6 percent from each side. This means Warwickshire still have control with 50.4 percent.
The deal is worth close to £1 million. It will be confirmed on Wednesday.
Bellingham has followed cricket for years. He played junior cricket for Hagley Cricket Club when he was young.
In an interview last year, he said he would swap places with Ben Stokes if he could pick any sportsperson.
Tom Brady is also part of the Knighthead group.
