Baz Luhrmann is bringing The King back to the big screen, as the acclaimed director has unveiled ‘EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert’, a newly restored concert film featuring rare and unseen footage of Elvis Presley’s legendary Las Vegas performances, slated for global cinema release in 2026.
The film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6 and later screened at the Zurich Film Festival, combines archival concert recordings from Presley’s late-1960s and 1970s Vegas residency with never-before-seen outtakes from Elvis: That’s the Way It Is and Elvis on Tour.
According to NME, the idea for EPiC emerged during the production of Luhrmann’s 2022 biopic Elvis, when the filmmaker and his team uncovered 68 boxes of lost film reels documenting the performer’s electrifying stage presence.
“From the first day my editor, Jonathan Redmond, and I encountered this rare and never-before-seen footage of Elvis almost eight years ago, it has been our mission that Elvis should finally fulfil his unrealised dream to tour around the world,” Luhrmann said in a statement shared via Variety.
He described EPiC as “not just a documentary and not just a concert film,” but an immersive cinematic event. “Now, I could not be more thrilled that our passion is matched by Neon and Universal, who will ensure this film will be seen from local cinemas in small towns to the biggest screens in the biggest cities in the world,” Luhrmann added. “I personally can’t wait to TCB — take care of business — and take this show on the road.”
Luhrmann, known for visually opulent films such as Moulin Rouge! and Romeo + Juliet, previously directed the 2022 biopic Elvis, starring Austin Butler. The film became a critical and commercial success, earning eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor.
With EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, Luhrmann now revisits Presley’s golden era on stage, offering fans a rare chance to experience the King’s charisma and energy as if they were there in Vegas half a century ago.
