Bangladesh’s 55th anniversary of independence was celebrated with a grand event in Moscow, Russia, on 26 March at the Cultural Center of the Main Directorate for the Diplomatic Corps of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with over 150 guests in attendance.
The programme was jointly organised by the Russian Association of International Cooperation (RAMS) and the Russian Friendship Society with Bangladesh. Diplomats, government representatives, students, and journalists from both countries were present.
A welcome message from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was read out at the event. RAMS Chairman Sergey Kalashnikov and Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh AG Khozin also addressed the gathering.
Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Russia, Md Nazrul Islam, highlighted the Soviet Union’s support in the post-independence period and emphasised the importance of current bilateral cooperation.
President of the Russian Friendship Society with Bangladesh Mia Sattar spoke about various initiatives to strengthen bilateral relations. He noted that people-to-people diplomacy could further enhance cooperation between the two countries.
The programme also featured cultural performances and an art exhibition. Organisers expressed hope that such initiatives would further strengthen the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and Russia.
