The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s security committee chairman, Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed, said on Tuesday that the board is working to finalise venues for the 2027 Asia Cup, which Bangladesh is set to host in the ODI format.
The Asian Cricket Council has asked the BCB to stage the regional tournament from 18 June to 4 July 2027, and has requested detailed information on three proposed venues. Speaking to reporters at the American International University Bangladesh, Ibrahim, who also chairs the BCB’s tender and purchase committee, said Mirpur, Chattogram and Sylhet remained the board’s preferred choices. “We have been contacted, and they have asked us for detailed information about the three proposed venues. We hope to formalise the matter within the next few days. As things stand, we are considering Mirpur, Chattogram and Sylhet, the regular international venues we have,” he said.
He was careful to stress that no final decision had yet been made on venues or security arrangements. “Nothing has been finalised yet. God willing, if next year’s Asia Cup is held in Bangladesh, you will get to see more details,” Ibrahim added.
There has also been discussion around including Bogura’s Shaheed Chandu Stadium as a fourth venue, though Ibrahim said that would depend on whether the ground could be readied in time. “We are working on the Bogura venue. Managing the venue properly is a separate matter. For now, however, the focus is on Dhaka, Sylhet and Chattogram,” he said.
Bangladesh last hosted the Asia Cup in 2016, when the tournament was played in the T20 format and the hosts finished runners up. The country now looks set to host the competition again once arrangements are confirmed, with Ibrahim expressing hope that all venues would be involved. “We are hopeful that each of these venues will host at least one match. We will be able to share more over the next few days once the decision is finalised,” he said.
The tournament would mark the first major event staged under the Tamim Iqbal led executive committee. “We are optimistic that the Asia Cup will return to Bangladesh after so many years. We want to deliver a successful tournament for the fans and everyone who loves the game,” Ibrahim said.
