Kurmitola Golf Course will turn into a testing arena on December 16 as amateur golfers from eight countries tee off in Dhaka. The Bangladesh Golf Federation stages the 39th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship.
Bangladesh welcomes teams from Australia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal and Bhutan. Most of the foreign squads have already landed, and they have arrived with clear intent. They want the trophy, not the scenery.
Host Bangladesh also carries quiet confidence. Coach Nadim Hossain Sohel believes preparation gives his side a genuine chance rather than false hope. He accepts the strength of the field but backs his golfers to stand their ground.
“Our only goal is to become champions,” Sohel said. He pointed to long training sessions and familiarity with conditions as key advantages. He expects a tough contest but sees a real path to titles in both men’s and women’s events.
Star amateur Abu Bakar Siddique echoed that belief. He stressed how playing on a home course sharpens confidence and reduces uncertainty. He wants the team to turn that comfort into results that lift the national flag.
Women’s ace Sonia Akhter struck a measured tone. She acknowledged the difficulty of competing against international opposition but trusted the team’s preparation. She believes execution, not nerves, will decide their fate.
The organisers have completed all logistical preparations. A warm-up event on Monday will offer golfers a final chance to fine-tune their games. It will also expose nerves before the pressure truly arrives.
The main competition begins on Tuesday morning and runs until December 19. The championship will close with a formal awards ceremony, but Bangladesh hopes the real prize arrives earlier. On home fairways, with belief growing, the hosts aim to turn ambition into silverware.
