Bangladesh’s Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam, MP, and State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat, MP, held talks with representatives from France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany and the European Union on Wednesday to strengthen bilateral cooperation and discuss possible Airbus aircraft acquisition for Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The courtesy meeting was held at 1:00pm at the conference room of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism at the Bangladesh Secretariat, where both sides discussed expanding cooperation in the country’s civil aviation sector and strengthening long-standing relations between Bangladesh and the European Union and its member states.
The meeting was attended by Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet, Ambassador of France to Bangladesh; Sarah Cooke, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh; Gabriel Sistiaga, Ambassador of Spain; Anja Tersten, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Germany; and Baiba Zerin, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh.
The discussions focused on the potential purchase of Airbus aircraft under Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ fleet expansion programme. The government representatives said Bangladesh was interested in developing a sustainable mixed fleet while protecting the country’s national interests.
The representatives of the European countries and the European Union reiterated their commitment to providing necessary cooperation for the proposed aircraft acquisition, according to a press release.
The meeting also reaffirmed the shared commitment of Bangladesh and its European partners to further strengthen multifaceted bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in areas including civil aviation development.
