The monsoon-themed album Badla Smriti was officially unveiled on Saturday (1 August) at At the Table, where its collection of seasonal songs was introduced to audiences.
The event also marked the premiere of the album’s first music video, Bhijiye Diyo Na, while two more music videos from the album were screened for invited guests.
The songs have been written and directed by Ahasan Imam, a faculty member of the Department of Bangla at Jahangirnagar University and an acclaimed filmmaker.
Alongside songs celebrating the beauty of the rainy season, the album also features a patriotic number.
The album brings together the voices of Kona, Jhilik, Shan Shaik, and Pinto Ghosh, with musical composition by Shan Shaik.
Explaining the inspiration behind the project, lyricist and filmmaker Ahasan Imam said the album reflects the beauty of Bangladesh and the emotions associated with the monsoon.
“We have tried to capture the splendour of the monsoon, Bangladesh, human emotions, love, longing, memories and nature through the lyrics, melodies and visuals. The monsoon and natural landscape of Bangladesh resemble a painter’s canvas, and Badla Smriti is our attempt to bring that beauty to life through music and cinematography,” he said.
The album has been produced by MusicArt Station and Alifiya Dance Atelier. The music videos feature Imtu Ratish, Nowrin, and Joly as models.
Filming took place at several locations in Savar, with the production team making a special effort to shoot key sequences during actual rainy days to preserve the authenticity of the season.
Apart from his work in music, Ahasan Imam has directed a number of short films, including Compendium, Journey, Special Eye, Awareness, Mission Kashmir, and The Tree.
His films have been screened at film festivals in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Bhutan and several other countries. He has also served as a jury member at a number of international film festivals.
