Rubaiyat Hossain’s The Difficult Bride continues its journey through prestigious international film festivals, travelling from Venice to Toronto and then London.
Actress Azmeri Haque Badhan, who appears in a special role in the film, has expressed her excitement and pride over its international recognition.
“Of course, I feel extremely happy. I was able to be a small part of such a big and high-quality project. I am very happy and proud that the film is reaching so many prestigious platforms,”
Badhan said.
Badhan plays a guest role as the owner of a beauty parlour. Although her screen time is limited, she said she had a memorable experience working on the film.
“First of all, the story is excellent. The direction is also very good. Rubaiyat Hossain is both the director and screenwriter, and she has done an outstanding job. The others who worked on the film have also delivered remarkable performances,” she said.
Badhan particularly praised lead actress Zainin Chowdhury Karim, saying she had delivered an outstanding performance in the central role.
The actress also praised the working environment on the set, noting that most department heads were women.
“It was a wonderful experience. I worked on an extraordinary set where most of the department heads were women. This is the kind of set we want to see more of,” she said.
Badhan also appreciated the way the cast and crew were treated, saying the artists were respected and cared for throughout the production.
She described Rubaiyat as not only a talented director but also “a very good person”.
Reflecting on women-led stories in Bangladeshi cinema, Badhan said such narratives remain relatively uncommon, although she is now seeing signs of change.
“Women-led stories are still very few here. But I can see some changes now. Many people are moving towards women-centred stories,” she said.
She also acknowledged the contribution of female filmmakers such as Rubaiyat, who have championed women-centred narratives for years.
Badhan said she hopes to see more women take on key roles across the film industry, particularly as directors and producers.
