Civil aviation and tourism minister Afroza Khanam has warned that artificial intelligence-enabled misinformation and disinformation are increasingly being used to undermine Bangladesh’s aviation sector and public institutions, calling for greater vigilance and verification of online content.
Afroza Khanam made the remarks on Saturday while attending the inauguration of a free medical camp and blood donation programme in Manikganj town’s Harijan Palli area, organised to mark the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
Speaking as chief guest, she said protecting the integrity of aviation services had become a key priority of the government, particularly in ensuring safe, efficient and harassment-free services for expatriate Bangladeshis and air passengers.
She said a series of initiatives were under way to modernise airport operations, improve efficiency and enhance passenger experience across Bangladesh’s aviation network.
Referring to recent online narratives, she said some groups were attempting to distort information using AI-generated content and misleading posts to damage institutional credibility.
She urged citizens to rely on verified sources and avoid sharing unconfirmed information that could create confusion around critical public services.
The minister also reiterated the government’s focus on strengthening Biman Bangladesh Airlines, with the objective of transforming the national carrier into a more efficient and internationally competitive legacy airline.
She said ongoing reforms in the aviation sector are expected to improve service delivery and bring tangible benefits for passengers, particularly expatriate workers who rely heavily on air connectivity.
The programme was attended by physicians from Manikganj and leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations.
