Australia clinched their seventh ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title on Sunday, defeating England at Lord’s Cricket Ground by chasing down 151 with seven wickets in hand and 17 balls to spare.
Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield led the chase with a dominant 100-run partnership for the second wicket that took Australia firmly in control of the final. Litchfield scored 48 off 31 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes, before being bowled by a low delivery from Charlie Dean. Mooney anchored the innings with a superb 64 off 49 balls, striking 10 fours, and was dismissed with the target almost within reach.
Australia suffered an early setback when Georgia Voll was dismissed for 17, but the Mooney-Litchfield stand turned the contest decisively in their favour. With Mooney’s dismissal, the outcome was already all but sealed as Australia moved comfortably towards the target. Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner were at the crease when the winning runs were scored.
Earlier, England posted 150 after being asked to bat first. Nat Sciver-Brunt played a key role with a half-century, while Freya Kemp struck a brisk 44 off 28 balls to lift the total. England struggled for momentum in the early stages, losing Amy Jones for 7 and seeing Danni Wyatt-Hodge fall cheaply.
Alice Capsey added 23 off 20 balls before being bowled by Sophie Molineux, but England found stability through an 80-run fourth-wicket partnership between Sciver-Brunt and Kemp. That stand helped them reach 150 for 4, with Charlie Dean, Lauren Bell and Sophie Ecclestone taking one wicket each for Australia.
