For nearly three decades, Aurthohin has been the torchbearer of Bangladeshi rock music. This October, the band prepares to etch another defining chapter in its legacy with the release of ‘Phoenix-er Diary 2’ and their debut concert in the US.
The album announcement arrived via a motion poster on Facebook, where a blazing phoenix rose once again, a symbol long tied to the band’s resilience and to frontman Bassbaba Sumon’s own battle-tested journey through cancer, surgeries and near-fatal health crises.
Fans instantly recognised it as more than just an album teaser as it was a statement of rebirth.
Phoenix-er Diary 2 follows three years after its predecessor, which broke Aurthohin’s six-year silence in 2022, with eight tracks that revisited the narratives of pain, survival and hope.
While the tracklist for the new record remains under wraps, longtime listeners expect the signature mix of Sumon’s soul-baring lyricism, layered instrumentation and heavy-hitting energy.
The release will coincide with Aurthohin’s first international tour of the US, a six-city run starting October 25 in Boston and making stops in Virginia, New York, Houston, Dallas and Indiana.
Organised by Music Bangla and Veritas Events, the tour marks the band’s most ambitious overseas venture to date, with the possibility of more shows being added.
Aurthohin’s current lineup: Sumon on bass and vocals, Mark Don on drums and Ehtesham Ali on guitar, continues to carry the weight of a legacy built since the late ’90s.
