Remittance inflows to Bangladesh saw a notable increase of 13.7% in the first 16 days of August compared to the same period last year, according to Bangladesh Bank. The total remittance inflow during these 16 days amounted to $1.264 billion.
The total remittances for the period from July 1 to August 16 stood at $3.742 billion, marking a 23.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
In the 2024-25 fiscal year, remittances reached a record high, growing by nearly 27% to exceed $30 billion, driven by the depreciation of the local currency and increased support from expatriate workers following political changes.
As of August 17, Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves were reported at $30.81 billion, according to Bangladesh Bank.
However, using the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) methodology under the Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual (BPM6), the reserves stood at $25.81 billion.
