Directorate of Inspection and Audit (DIA) under the Ministry of Education has released reports for 973 educational institutions, recommending the recovery of nearly Tk90 crore embezzled through various irregularities.
DIA Director MM Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter in a press release on Sunday. The findings stem from investigations conducted between 1 July and 31 December 2025.
During the six-month period, DIA teams carried out on-site inspections at educational institutions across multiple districts, uncovering evidence of forged certificates, fake appointments and numerous financial irregularities.
The published reports identified irregularities including forged or fake certificates, unacceptable certificates, fake recruitment, direct embezzlement of funds and financial irregularities related to VAT and income tax.
DIA recommended that a total of Tk89,82,25,607 be returned to the government treasury. It also suggested taking necessary measures to recover 176.523 acres of illegally occupied land belonging to the institutions.

Copies of the inspection reports have been emailed to the respective education directorates, education boards, district education offices, and the chairpersons of the governing bodies and heads of the concerned institutions.
Institutions that have not received their reports can collect them from the relevant district education office. They may apply on the institution’s letterhead and send an email request to the designated address, and the report will be resent within three working days.
DIA also said no one needs to visit the Directorate in person to collect the report.
DIA Joint Director Md Idris Ali stated that such strict measures have been introduced to ensure transparency and accountability in the education sector.
“In the last six months, our inspection teams conducted on-site investigations in 973 educational institutions across the country. During the investigations, teachers’ registration certificates and BEd and other important certificates were identified as forged or fake,” he said.
He added that DIA has recommended to the Ministry of Education that strict action be taken against the teachers involved. The ministry will make a final decision on the accused after conducting hearings.
