Candidates for the Assistant Thana Education Officer (ATEO) recruitment exam have alleged widespread irregularities, including question leaks, corruption, and a lack of transparency.
They are demanding the cancellation of the 12 September exam and the arrangement of a fair re-examination.
At a press conference held on Friday at the Jatiya Press Club, Dhaka, the candidates claimed that exam questions were leaked hours before the test. A Facebook page named “Zahid Khan (All Exam Helper)” reportedly posted the exact question paper at 2:06 AM on the day of the exam.
They alleged that the paper was sold for Tk 10,000 – Tk 20,000 through a syndicate, depriving genuine candidates.
Although the exam was restricted to divisional candidates, outsiders and previously transferred officials allegedly participated, creating an unfair competitive environment.
Candidates also reported technical issues with the question paper, including blurry pink print and small fonts, which hindered performance.
Additionally, they cited attempts to manipulate results, including offers of score enhancement after the exam. They claimed that Motiur Rahman was arrested by the Ramna Detective Branch on 16 September with evidence of involvement.
Zahidul Islam, Additional DIG of CID confirmed the existence of a syndicate and assured that legal action would be taken.
Poor invigilation was also reported. In centres such as Singhopukur Adarsha High School (Dhamrai), candidates allegedly received unauthorized assistance. One candidate reportedly completed the entire OMR sheet in just 30 minutes, raising concerns about the exam’s integrity.
Md Riazul Islam, speaking on behalf of the candidates, said, “We want recruitment based on merit. Due to corruption, qualified candidates were deprived.”
He also referenced the 2016 ATEO exam, which was cancelled over similar irregularities, warning that repeated failures could erode public trust in the education system.
The candidates demanded a proper investigation, exemplary punishment for those responsible, and a fresh, transparent examination.
