In response to the acute shortage of safe drinking water following the recent fire in Dhaka’s Korail slum, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) has installed and inaugurated two purified water tanks as part of its emergency humanitarian support.

This initiative undertaken with due consideration of the immediate needs of affected residents and public health risks provides swift relief, safety, and hope to the local community in the post-disaster period, according to a press release.

Following the fire, Bangladesh Ansar and VDP distributed cooked meals twice to 2,000 people over nine days, 900 blankets, and 1,200 emergency infant food packs (powdered milk).

Speaking at the inauguration, the chief guest said, “Standing by people in times of disaster is our commitment. These tanks have been installed under the guidance of the director general to ensure that the affected people of Korail have access to safe water.

As in the past, Bangladesh Ansar and the VDP will continue to provide maximum support to citizens during any crisis.”

Residents affected by the fire have welcomed this humanitarian initiative with deep gratitude.
According to them, the most significant challenge immediately after the incident was the lack of safe drinking water; the installation of the new tanks will help restore daily life swiftly.

Locals hope this welfare initiative will further accelerate ongoing efforts for rehabilitation and reconstruction in the Korail area.

The event was attended by commanders of Dhaka Metropolitan Ansar, officials of Dhaka Zone and Ansar members.
