Former law minister Anisul Haque, former social welfare minister Dipu Moni, and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s adviser Salman F Rahman were shown arrested on Wednesday in connection with an attempted murder case filed with the Badda Police Station, linked to the July quota reform protests.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam issued the order on Wednesday. The three were produced in court from jail at 10am, with proceedings beginning shortly afterward.
State counsel Shamsuddoha Sumon, the case investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Golam Kibria Khan of Badda Police Station, applied to have the trio shown arrested, and the court approved the request.
According to the case, complainant Md Durjoy Ahmed, 28, was participating in an anti-quota movement on 20 July, 2024, near Post Office Gali under Middle Badda when he was shot in the head.
The attack left him blind and caused severe head injuries. He subsequently received treatment at several hospitals.
The case was filed against 90 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in connection with the incident.
