BNP Standing Committee member and Dhaka-8 candidate Mirza Abbas said on Sunday that he was facing a “test of patience” from Allah because of the conduct of his rival, Nasiruddin Patwary of the 11-party alliance.
He sought prayers so that he could remain calm until the election on 12 February.
Speaking during a mass contact programme, he alleged that an atmosphere of unrest was being deliberately created to provoke him ahead of the polls.
He accused his rival of using indecent language to incite conflict and create a scene aimed at disrupting the electoral process.
Mirza Abbas also alleged that electoral engineering was underway, claiming that several parties were working in a planned manner to foil the election and manipulate the outcome, while attempting to shift responsibility for such actions onto others.
He questioned the confidence of political opponents with no experience in running the state who, he said, had threatened to “deal with” others after coming to power, suggesting their confidence stemmed from loyalists placed in key positions to influence the election process.
His campaign activities on Sunday began in Arambagh and continued through Fakirapool, Kamalapur and Siddheswari, before ending with a mass contact programme at the Bangabhaban Staff Quarters.
