The Bangladesh Premier League will be played without any league-stage matches in Chattogram after the revised tournament schedule confirmed that all fixtures originally allocated to the port city have been transferred to Sylhet.
Under the updated itinerary, Sylhet International Cricket Stadium will host every league match from the opening day on December 26 until January 12. This includes the full slate of Chattogram Royals’ early fixtures, effectively removing Chattogram from the list of host venues for the first half of the competition and making Sylhet the sole venue during that period.
The revised fixtures show Chattogram Royals opening their campaign in Sylhet against Noakhali Express on December 26, followed by a sequence of matches at the same venue against Rangpur Riders, Dhaka Capitals, Sylhet Titans and Rajshahi Warriors. Their entire early programme is scheduled in Sylhet before the tournament relocates to Dhaka in mid-January.
The Sylhet-heavy schedule has been shaped further by national mourning following the death of former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The Bangladesh Cricket Board called off both BPL matches scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, including the Sylhet Titans v Chattogram Royals fixture. Those matches have been rescheduled for January 4. In addition, no games will be held on December 31 in line with the government-declared public holiday, while matches on January 1 and 2 in Sylhet will proceed as planned. The board has said a further revised itinerary covering matches from January 5 onwards will be issued in due course.
Chattogram Royals have already begun adjusting to the reality of playing away from home throughout the league stage. They have completed two matches in Sylhet so far, recording one win and one defeat. While the single-venue arrangement reduces travel demands and allows teams to settle into consistent conditions, it removes any home advantage and denies Chattogram supporters the chance to watch their side locally.
The league phase in Sylhet will conclude on January 12, after which teams will move to Dhaka. Chattogram Royals’ first fixture outside Sylhet is scheduled for January 15, with subsequent matches also set for the capital. All playoff matches and the final will be staged in Dhaka, with reserve days built into the calendar to accommodate any disruption.
The BPL season began on December 26 and has completed three matchdays so far. Despite the postponements and venue realignment, officials believe the overall structure of the tournament remains intact due to the number of rest and travel days already built into the schedule.
