The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-2) has arrested three individuals, including the second accused in the sensational Alex Emon murder case, Md Hossain Ahmed Shahrukh, from the Shahbagh area of the capital.
A foreign-made pistol, a magazine, a locally-made revolver, two rounds of live ammunition, 260 grams of gunpowder, and two machetes were recovered during the operation.
RAB-2 Commanding Officer Naimul Hasan disclosed these details during a press conference held on Sunday at the RAB-2 headquarters in Mohammadpur.
According to the RAB-2 chief, the force received intelligence on Saturday indicating that Md Hossain Ahmed Shahrukh, the number two accused named in the first information report (FIR), and his associates were present in the Shahbagh area. Acting on this information, a special operational team of RAB-2 conducted a raid in Shahbagh on Saturday night.
During the raid, Shahrukh, 27, his associate Md Tarequzzaman Tareq, 30, and Md Shahidul Islam, 29, were apprehended.
Following the arrests, RAB-2 conducted a follow-up raid at a house on Haji Yunus Khan Road in the Rayerbazar area, under the jurisdiction of Mohammadpur Police Station, based on information extracted during the suspects’ interrogation.

The search of the premises yielded a foreign 7.65mm pistol, one magazine, a locally-made revolver, two rounds of live ammunition, 260 grams of gunpowder, and two machetes.
The RAB-2 commanding officer revealed that several cases are pending against Shahrukh at Mohammadpur Police Station. These include two cases for theft, preparation for robbery, attempted murder, and intimidation; one case for murder; one case for women and children repression; and one case under the Speedy Trial Act.
Similarly, his associate Tarequzzaman Tareq faces a case at Mohammadpur Police Station for theft, attempted murder, and intimidation.
With these latest arrests, a total of 11 suspects—comprising six individuals named in the FIR and five unidentified persons—have been arrested so far in connection with the Alex Emon murder case.
RAB said operations are ongoing to track down and arrest the remaining suspects in the case. Meanwhile, legal proceedings regarding the recovered weapons and other seized evidence are currently underway.
