Bangladeshi journalist Al Kachir has been invited to cover the 98th Academy Awards, the world’s most prestigious film event, which will take place on March 16 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, US.
Alongside leading filmmakers, actors, producers and cinema experts from around the globe, international media representatives will also be in attendance. This year, Al Kachir will represent Bangladesh as part of the press corps. He is currently a journalist with the private news outlet Star News and the Academy’s accreditation department has confirmed his participation.
In an official email, the Academy stated: “The Academy has accepted your application and granted you permission to access and work in the Oscars interview room.”
The email added that this credential will allow Al Kachir access to the press room at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles, including participation in Q&A sessions with Oscar winners. The credential is specifically issued to journalists who intend to directly question Oscar-winning artists.
Al Kachir said, “I have experience covering major international film festivals, and receiving an invitation to an event as significant as the Oscars feels incredible. Learning that no journalist from Bangladesh has ever directly covered the Oscars before me was truly overwhelming.” He described the moment as historic, adding, “It is a matter of pride. Being there will provide a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of world cinema.”
Al Kachir has previously reported on the 75th Cannes Film Festival in 2022 and was later invited to cover the 35th Tokyo International Film Festival. He has also reported from the Shanghai International Film Festival, the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, and the Nepal International Film Festival.
He is a member of the Dhaka Journalists Union (DUJ) and serves as the Organising Secretary of the Television Entertainment Journalists Association of Bangladesh (TEJAB).
