Al-Arafah to plant 15,000 saplings

Al-Arafah Islami Bank has announced a nationwide tree plantation initiative, planning to plant 15,000 tree saplings across the country through its branches.

The bank launched this program at Chittagong University on Sunday, August 17, 2025, under the slogan “Let’s do planned afforestation, build a green Bangladesh,” according to a press release from the bank.

The event was inaugurated by Chittagong University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Yahia Akhter.

Managing Director (CC) Mohd Rafat Ullah Khan of Al-Arafah Islami Bank attended as a special guest, stating, “Al-Arafah Islami Bank is committed to supporting the country’s environmental development, conserving biodiversity, and reducing the impact of climate change. We are playing an active role in the afforestation activities at Chittagong University.”

The tree plantation program, supervised by the University’s Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, included rallies, seminars, and the planting of various tree species throughout the day.

The event was also attended by Deputy Managing Director Md Fazlur Rahman Chowdhury, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan, Director of the Institute Professor Dr Md Akhter Hossain, and faculty members including Professors Dr Md Kamal Hossain and Dr Md Al Amin, along with bank executives and a large number of students.

As part of its social responsibility program, Al-Arafah Islami Bank has committed to planting tree saplings through its branches across the country to address climate change and promote a greener future.
