Nostalgia is heading back to the big screen as the 1994 action thriller ‘Mohra’, starring Akshay Kumar, Raveena Tandon and Suniel Shetty, prepares for a theatrical comeback in a remastered 4K version on 6 November 2026.
According to Hindustan Times, production house Trimurti Films has announced the re-release with a teaser promising audiences another chance to experience the film’s action, suspense and memorable soundtrack.
Directed by Rajiv Rai and produced by Gulshan Rai, ‘Mohra’ originally hit cinemas on 1 July 1994. The film follows Vishal Agnihotri, played by Suniel Shetty, a prisoner seeking justice for his wife’s murder.
Journalist Roma Singh, portrayed by Raveena Tandon, helps secure his release, but Vishal soon becomes involved in a dangerous plan orchestrated by the influential Jindal, played by Naseeruddin Shah.
Akshay Kumar plays Inspector Amar Saxena, who investigates a series of killings and gradually uncovers a wider conspiracy. The ensemble cast also includes Paresh Rawal, Gulshan Grover, Raza Murad and Sadashiv Amrapurkar.
The film’s music remains one of its biggest attractions. Composed by Viju Shah, the soundtrack produced popular songs such as ‘Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast’ and ‘Tip Tip Barsa Paani’, which continue to be associated with 1990s Hindi cinema.
However, director Rajiv Rai has clarified that the re-release will be limited to single-screen theatres rather than multiplex chains.
He said the film would travel across different centres in India over several months, with high ticket prices and multiplex distribution fees making a wider release less practical.
The return of ‘Mohra’ comes a day after Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Ramayana’ is scheduled to open in cinemas on 5 November. Rai has said the limited re-release is not intended to compete directly with the new film.
