The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, former defence and security adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique and his wife Shaheen Siddique.
They have been asked to appear in the ACC headquarters at Segunbagicha in the capital on July 2 to give their statements about allegations of corruption.
Tarique Ahmed, a retired major general of Bangladesh Army, was the defence and security adviser to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Md Aktarul Islam, deputy director (Public Relations) of the ACC, confirmed the news on Monday.
As part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of land grabbing, embezzlement of money, and money laundering, the anti-graft watchdog had also summoned Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and his family members in May this year.
According to the notice, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, his wife Afroza Begum, their eldest son and Co-Chairman Sadat Sobhan and Sadat’s wife Sonia Ferdousi Sobhan were summoned for questioning on May 25.
On May 26, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan’s son and Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir, his wife and Group Director Sabrina Sobhan, Vice-Chairman Safiat Sobhan (Sanvir), Vice-Chairman Safwan Sobhan and his wife, and Group Director Yasha Sobhan were summoned for questioning.
