The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is seeking the detailed financial records regarding the observance of “Mujib Borsho” and the construction of more than 10,000 murals and sculptures depicting Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

To this effect, the anti-graft watchdog has sent letters to all 64 districts across the country.

An ACC official confirmed the move, saying that the step was taken following allegations of large-scale misappropriation and waste – estimated at around Tk4,000 crore – from the state treasury during the centenary celebrations of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The funds were allegedly spent under projects associated with former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and other prominent political figures during “Mujib Borsho” commemorations.

To investigate the matter, the ACC has formed a seven-member inquiry team, headed by a deputy director.

The ACC underscored the urgency of the matter, requesting immediate submission of attested copies of all relevant financial records.

Furthermore, the ACC has asked for a district-wise breakdown of the number of murals constructed, their locations, individual construction costs, and the officials responsible for overseeing those works.
