A man injured in a clash between two groups in Madhya Pungali village of Faridpur upazila in Pabna has died. Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the incident..

The deceased, Gazzali Munshi, 50, died from his injuries early Friday while being transferred from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital to Enayetpur Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College Hospital in Sirajganj. He was the son of the late Ramzan Munshi and a supporter of the Haji group.

Earlier on Thursday morning, the clash broke out between the Haji and Badsha groups in Madhya Pungali village of the upazila.

The arrested individuals are Kudrat-e-Khuda (45) and Dhala (25).

Police said that last year a dispute arose between the two sides over sitting on chairs during Eid prayers at the Eidgah ground. As a result of that tension, another clash occurred on Thursday morning.

During the clash, 20 people from both sides were injured. They were rescued and taken to Faridpur Upazila Health Complex. Later, several seriously injured individuals were admitted to Ramek Hospital.

On the night of the incident, both parties filed separate cases. Police then arrested two people and sent them to jail. Additional police have been deployed in the area to control the situation.

Faridpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shakiul Azam said both groups filed cases at the police station on the night of the clash. Later, two individuals were arrested.

Upon receiving information, police recovered the body and sent it to Pabna Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem, he added.
